"BE going to"- Using present continuous to talk about the future:

Dear students,

Please check Ms. Konul's notes on "BE going to". Click here

Present Continuous Tense

Uses:

It is very important to understand that present continuous can be used only to talk about actions that are taking place at the moment.

e.g. I am reading the blog.

DO NOT use present continuous to talk about facts or general things

P.S. sometimes we use a special form of present continuous to talk about events in the future.

Form:

Subject + verb to be (am/is/are) + verb~ing

My uncle is cooking
People in Japan are celebrating spring.

Negation:

To change present continuous sentences into negative, all you have to do is to add 'not' after verb to be

e.g. My uncle is not cooking/ People in Japan are not celebrating spring.

Making Polar Questions:

Verb to be + subject + verb~ing + ?

Is your uncle cooking?
Are people in Japan celebrating spring?

Making wh-questions:

wh-word + verb to be + subject + verb~ing + ?

What is your father doing?
